Calorie Deck

About

Last updated 29 October 2026

Calorie Deck is a small collection of free health, fitness and nutrition calculators. There is no sign-up, nothing is uploaded, and every result is accompanied by the equation that produced it.

Why we publish the formula

Most calculators on the internet hand you a number with no indication of where it came from. That makes it impossible to judge whether the number applies to you. Every tool here names its equation, who published it, and the situations where it tends to break down.

This matters because none of these formulas are precise. The Mifflin-St Jeor equation, the US Navy body fat method and the Devine ideal weight formula are all population averages. They are useful starting points and poor final answers, and you deserve to know which is which.

What we do not collect

  • No accounts, no email capture, no newsletter.
  • No database. Every calculation happens in your browser.
  • Meals logged in the Food Scanner are stored in your browser's local storage and never leave your device.

Accuracy and limitations

Health calculators estimate. They cannot see your muscle mass, your medical history, or how much oil went into your dinner. Photo-based calorie estimation in particular carries large error margins — published testing of commercial apps has found systematic undercounting.

We would rather tell you that plainly than imply a precision these tools do not have.

How we build and check the calculators

  • Every tool implements a published equation, not an invented one. The formula, its source and its assumptions are listed on our methodology page.
  • Each result is checked against hand calculation and published worked examples before it goes live.
  • Input ranges are limited to what the source research actually covered, so the tool refuses to extrapolate beyond its evidence.
  • Where a formula is known to describe some people badly — muscular athletes, older adults, people on medication affecting heart rate — the page says so rather than presenting a false confidence.

What we are not

Calorie Deck is an independent reference project. It is not a medical provider. No result on this site has been reviewed or approved by a doctor, dietitian or other clinician, and we do not present it as though it has been.

We think there is value in a tool that shows you exactly how its numbers were produced and lets you check them — even though it cannot tell you what is right for your body. That is the whole aim here.

Editorial and review policy

Every formula is implemented once, checked against hand calculations and published worked examples, and cites its original source. What we do not have at this time is a clinician sign-off: nobody with medical or dietetic credentials has reviewed these pages. We would rather say that plainly than imply an authority we do not have.

If we later add a qualified reviewer, their name and credentials will appear here and next to the pages they reviewed. Until then, treat every result as an estimate and consult a professional for anything that matters.

Corrections

If you find a formula implemented incorrectly, or a source we have misrepresented, please tell us. We aim to reply within a few days; verified calculation errors are fixed promptly and logged on the methodology page with the date of the change. Corrections are published, not quietly applied.

Who makes this

Calorie Deck is run by an independent author — not a clinic, agency or supplement brand. There is no sponsored content and no paid placement in the calculators. If you spot an error, please get in touch — corrections are genuinely appreciated.
